” Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. “
I enjoyed an interesting conversation with a born again christian yesterday about the judgment for Christians.
My friend, if you had sins you have repented of and asked forgiveness for, live with the faith and knowledge of the Word of God that you are forgiven and what you have put under the blood of Jesus will not ever be remembered against you by Jesus on the day of judgment.
If you have self appointed “holier than thou do gooder people” who get a sort of sadistic perverted pleasure in bringing up your past sins that you have been forgiven of… simply ignore them.
My little wife reminded me of someone who once said…”If satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future”.
Always remember this… those who remind you of your past sins are themselves harboring sin in their own life. If they had a relationship with the Lord as you do then they would know by the Holy Spirit that you are forgiven because the Bible says that the Holy Spirit bears witness in our hearts if we are of the same faith and to bring it up against you is actually fulfilling the work of the devil and that they are allowing themselves to be instruments of satan, instead of God. The difference in you and them is that you have repented of your sins and they have not and are still living in sin and probably living in self denial, denying that they are sinning. Just the fact that they take pleasure in reminding you of your past sins is a sin in itself as this is displaying the character, personality and nature of satan…not God.
The Bible says that some Christians’ sins go openly before them but there are Christians whose sins will be revealed on the day of judgment and that we will all give an account of every idle word we speak and give account of works that are both good and bad that we did in this earthly body…which is in reference to since we were saved, not before.
Just make sure you yourself are not like your accusers…presently living in sin.
Always remember as I have said before…we can fool people but we cannot fool God.
Let’s continue.
” Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. “
This is interesting what Jesus said;
“If God were your Father, “
The mentality of the world says that we are all God’s children.
But Jesus said;
“If God were your Father, “
Clearly Jesus explained when a human being actually becomes a “child of God” as we have studied repeatedly in earlier Bible studies.
The Holy Spirit of God rebirths our spirit when we repent of sin and come to “the faith” and rest our faith in “the faith” which is in and all about Jesus Christ.
It is interesting the way Jesus spoke these words. This brings tears to my eyes as this is most precious of Jesus to say it this way.
In the Greek the words “hgapate an eme ” translated ” ye would love me” literally means in the past tense ” you would have loved me:” and the Greek words “an eme” translated
“love me” denotes a wish on Jesus’ part that they had loved Him. In a sense Jesus is telling these Jews that He wishes they had loved Him.
After all, these guys were His own people!
While these Jews were a little mixed up in telling Jesus whose children they were, did say that they were children of Abraham.
And being children of Abraham in the flesh, their own ancestor Abraham rejoiced about Jesus, the One who stood there talking to them.
Later in this chapter of our study we will learn that Jesus said;
” Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. ” John 8:56
Since Abraham loved Jesus and since these Jews were descendents of Abraham, Jesus wished that they loved Him as did Abraham.
If they had believed Abraham they would have believed Jesus. If they had been of the same faith as Abraham they would have also loved and believed in Jesus.
I will do a couple of studies on these verses.
Bear with me as I have much to discuss in these verses.
The Lord bless you.
I think of you every day.
