Then let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains... for there shall be a great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." In Matt. 24:21 Jesus says, "For then shall be a great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." If we observe the connection in Matt. 24:4-27, then we see that it was during the great tribulation and before Jesus' arrival, that these false Christs and false prophets would appear. In the verses 29-30 Jesus says, "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light... and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Accordingly, the great tribulation gets its end just before Jesus' coming. The persecution of the Christians that we can read in the New Testament was the beginning of the great tribulation for the Assembly of God, and it has continued since then.
